Our Elite Partner Juniper Networks has taken another incremental step toward helping organizations to reach multicoloured nirvana by updating their SD-WAN offering. The update means you can now manage disparate networks as one cohesive set of resources.
The recent update to Juniper's SD-WAN solution signifies another step forward, unifying campus, data centre and branch networks with public clouds into one enterprise.
"Key component in building a simple, secure and automated multicloud"
Utilizing software-defined networking (SDN) technology and approaches, SD-WANs are increasingly part of the next-generation networking and virtualization space. It simplifies WAN management and operations by decoupling the networking hardware from its control mechanism.
The Contrail SD-WAN update of Juniper Networks is an expansion of its campus portfolio. It includes broadening the reach of its EVPN-VXLAN fabric to campus networks. This enables a common architecture through the combination of data centre and campus architectures. The EVPN-VXLAN protocol provides layer-3 transport with layer-2 capabilities, allowing organizations to evolve. It also takes into consideration legacy applications that make it ideal for campus architectures.
"Through this unification, Juniper Networks is providing the building blocks for an enterprise-wide fabric, a key component in building a simple, secure and automated multi-cloud," Juniper Networks said in its press release.
Increased visibility and dynamic management of application session performance
The update follows an earlier announcement that Juniper Networks turned its open-source SDN Open Contrail project over to The Linux Foundation. Juniper Networks then unveiled an expanded commercial enterprise offering based on the software, called Contrail Enterprise Multicloud.
“Today’s announced campus and SD-WAN enhancements allow enterprises to bring best practices from the data centre into their campuses," says Juniper Networks, "allowing them to more quickly realize secure and automated multi-cloud environments".
The SD-WAN enhancements involve increased visibility and dynamic management of application session performance for thousands of applications. This includes SharePoint, Skype for Business and Microsoft Outlook, along with improvements to branch devices.
New Juniper Networks EX Series Switch
Juniper Networks also announced a new EX Series switch augmented with the EVPN-VXLAN campus architecture. With a five-step multi-cloud migration framework for campus and branch networks, it provides a methodical approach for customized paths creation to multi-cloud implementations.
The announcements of Juniper Networks are designed to simplify and unify the different domains within networks on the journey toward multi-cloud. "Multicloud is an end-to-end, top-to-bottom proposition that requires a strong solution from the data centre to campus, from connectivity to orchestration and analytics," Juniper Networks said.
